Living in NYC isn't all peaches and cream, people! It's a scary place sometimes, which is why it's always great to learn how to defend yourself. I recently have been training the Krav Maga Academy in Manhattan. Krav Maga is an advanced Israeli self defense system designed to give solutions to any violent situation you can encounter. No matter the fitness level - self defense knowledge is imperative to have in your back pocket.
I've been taking Matan Gavish's class, and it's addicting! Everyone in the room is full of energy and ready to train the second they step off the elevator. Me included! The workout itself is challenging, there is always a warm-up with bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, mountain climbers or sprints (always to fun music) before we get to the actual learning! What I love about this class is that you actually pair up with someone to perform the movements, and Matan takes the time to explain how each move can be used in a day-to-day encounter.
I always leave Krav Maga Academy feeling empowered, strong, and SWEATY. Definitely an amazing work out, and I encourage everyone (male or female) to give this a go! As always, here's the 411 if you want to check it out:
